PCR: latest developments in EpdItaly

The latest PCR carried out involved very different sectors: construction, the world of education and that of energy. Below is a detailed description of each of the latest PCRs published or in the process of being published.

Sustainability as a sector strategy for the construction supply chain

The definition of sustainability in the construction sector is at the same time a question of an evolving regulatory nature and a question that pertains to market strategies concerning entrepreneurial competition. In this constantly evolving context, EPDItaly becomes the protagonist through the collaboration with Federbeton, proposer of the two PCRs linked to the construction sector for products:

-Ready-mixed concrete

-Cement, Binders and Premixed

The development of the PCR, proposed by Federbeton, aims to facilitate the publication of EPD for the product category in question – ready-mixed concrete, cement, binders and premixed – and the contextualization of national production taking into account the specificities and peculiarities of the system productive.

The PCR are Sub-PCR or Part B to be used together with the Core-PCR for construction products developed in accordance with EN 15804: 2012 + A2: 2019, which have a national geographical scope of application.

These Sub-PCR saw the participation of numerous Stakeholders from the construction sector, who actively participated in the public consultation, providing various comments on the documents. The comments received were managed and integrated into the latest versions of the PCRs published on the EPDItaly website in July.

PCR and universities: new collaborations are born

The EPDItaly www.epditaly.it Program, created to enhance and declare the sustainability characteristics and environmental performance of a product or service, has partnered with the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia (UNIMORE) for the publication of two PCRs in relation to Educational Services:

– PRODUCTS AND SERVICE SYSTEMS: Educational services

– PRODUCTS AND SERVICE SYSTEMS – First level tertiary educational services

The “Educational Services” PCR represents a Core-PCR that can be used within the EPDItaly Program to prepare, evaluate and validate an Environmental Product Declaration valid at international level by verifying the environmental performance of products falling within the general category “Services “And in the specific category of” Educational services “. The products covered by this PCR are all services with the sole function of education.

The PCR “First level tertiary educational services” represents a Sub-PCR, to be used together with the previously mentioned Core-PCR. The products covered by this sub-PCR are university services, with reference to a specific Department, School, College or University, with the sole function of education. The objective of the analysis is the assessment of the environmental impact of a service that provides university training.

The PCRs in question have completed the public consultation phase, and are currently under review.

New PCR for the electrical and electronic products chain

The agreement between ENEL and EPDItaly, aimed at enhancing the sustainability of the entire supply chain of electrical and electronic products, through the instrument of the Environmental Product Declaration (EPD), has led to the creation and publication of various PCRs over the years, documents necessary for the calculation of the environmental impacts to be declared in the EPD.

To date, the development of a new PCR is underway for:

Power inverters
The purpose of the Sub-PCR in question is to provide additional technical and regulatory requirements to be applied, on a mandatory basis, to the products of specific groups that fall under the general category “Electronic and electrical products and systems”. The products covered by this sub-PCR are assemblies of electrical and electronic components, with the main function of converting the variable direct voltage generated by a photovoltaic solar panel (PV) or any other equivalent current generator that supplies current (DC) such as output in an alternating current at commercial frequency (AC).

The Sub-PCR in question has completed the public consultation phase and is currently being revised and integrated.
