Update on EPDItaly and the use of the Mass Balance Approach in EPDs

With reference to the decision on the non-use of the Mass Balance Approach (MBA) in Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) by EcoPlatform, shared and communicated earlier by EPDItaly, we are announcing an important update.

Existing EPDs published prior to the notification of the October 25, 2023 decision, which use mass balance approaches, will continue to be valid, can include the ECO Platform logo and be provided through the ECO Platform Portal, while no transition time will have to be considered as in the case of new rules.

Therefore, any new EPDs published after the notification of the October 25, 2023 decision will not have to use mass balance approaches for attributing Guarantee of Origin to products from a site where Guarantees of Origin have been used.
