Riccardo Filosa, Sales Director Zucchetti Centro Sistemi Spa
Zucchetti Centro Sistemi Spa, a leading company in the international markets of robotics, automation, and renewable energy, is renowned for its innovative SMART & GREEN solutions that integrate the most advanced technologies. The Tuscan company has chosen to rely on EPDItaly to obtain EPD certification for the ZCSAzzurro range of photovoltaic inverters.
To better understand this decision, we interviewed Riccardo Filosa, Sales Director, who explained why the company chose to adopt EPD certification and the key benefits it brings.
What motivated you to pursue voluntary EPD certification?
Our company operates in the renewable energy sector. We manufacture inverters for photovoltaic applications and have always been highly focused on carbon dioxide emissions.
EPD certification is extremely important to us. Our main motivation for obtaining it is to assess the sustainability impact of our products: a topic we deeply care about and address every day.
Which product(s) in your company has obtained EPD? What are its main features?
We operate across three market segments: residential, commercial, and industrial. Our products are used in private homes, commercial establishments, and large companies.
Essentially, we manufacture photovoltaic inverters that generate clean energy by harnessing solar power. These inverters can also store energy in batteries during the daytime, making it available for use in the evening and at night.
To begin EPD certification process, we selected one product for each segment: a residential inverter, a commercial inverter, an industrial inverter.
What are the main benefits of publishing the Environmental Product Declaration? How does it impact the end consumer?
We certainly gain greater visibility and reinforce our commitment to sustainability. We make energy sustainability our daily mantra. For us, energy sustainability is a daily priority. We work in the renewable and clean energy sector, and having our products certified with an EPD strengthens our message and enhances our credibility. We also believe that EPD certification improves the product itself. To obtain an EPD, we must trace all the components used to manufacture our inverters. This tracking process leads to better quality control.
So, beyond the visibility and commercial advantages, we also achieve higher product and process quality.
Do you think EPDItaly can help promote a culture of product sustainability?
Absolutely. EPDItaly can play a key role in spreading awareness about sustainable products. Let me share a quick anecdote. A few days ago, while shopping at the supermarket, I noticed that a package of pasta had an EPD certification mark. Because of that, I chose it over other brands.
We are still far from widespread awareness of sustainability, but I strongly believe that proactive efforts are needed. Every market player and supply chain stakeholder must work together to promote a sustainability culture in our country.
How important is it for Italian sustainable products to be included in a Program Operator with an international network?
Extremely important. While Italy is our main market, we also export our products across the Mediterranean region, including Spain, Portugal, Greece, the Balkans, Cyprus, North Africa, and even Northern Europe
Having EPD certification issued by an internationally recognized program operator not only promotes sustainability awareness but also enhances our global competitiveness. In markets like Northern Europe, where sustainability is a key concern, EPD certification gives our products a distinct competitive advantage, making them stand out from the competition.
