EPDItaly and the use of the Mass Balance Approach in EPDs

We report that EPDItaly, a Program Operator and member of ECO Platform, the European association of all Program Operators in the construction industry, agrees with the decision regarding the non-use of the Mass Balance Approach (MBA) in Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs).
The MBA is a technique by which, within a production process, flows with specific characteristics (inputs or outputs, e.g., organically sourced material or recycled content) are assigned to individual products obtained from that production process on a theoretical basis — called the “Mass Balance Model: credit method.”

We point out that this decision will be cogent until a consensus is reached in ECO Platform.
