What are the main reasons that pushed you towards the voluntary EPD certification?

We are a company that has established itself in the purely military sector for over 20 years. A sector that requires constant updating, to achieve the highest quality standards, and high reliability, from the technical / commercial point of view, as well as from the point of view of safety, both personal and linked to the environmental impact in favor of eco-sustainability. Our company has always managed its responsibilities towards the environment in a systematic way, thus contributing to the environmental pillar of sustainability, for this reason, for several years, we have obtained the ISO 14001: 2015 certification giving us a significant advantage for the our sector. Our company markets different types of systems, and for some of these we believe that this certification can represent an added value, in addition to the guarantee of a transparent and analytical control of all the processes that have made the product suitable for our market and with the least impact on the environment.

Which product of your company has obtained the EPD? What are its main features?

We are talking about a type of modular flooring in PP with a CFL S1 flammability class, able to be assembled and deployed on numerous types of surfaces from Cement, Gravel, Sand to grassy surfaces or similar etc … The flooring in question, called AS -CHAIN304R, 100% recyclable, has been the subject of many tests carried out in various Accredited National Laboratories, precisely to verify its quality, performance and all those values that have made it perfect for its type of applicability: Tents, Hangars, Zones of Training, Remote Areas, Offices, Events, Accesses etc … This flooring of ours can be removed and rolled up in a few minutes, and then quickly transported and deployed again in new operational theaters.

What are the main advantages obtained from the publication of the Environmental Product Declaration? What are the repercussions on the final consumer?

We certainly have a greater guarantee and reliability, since, knowing in a more detailed and analytical way all the phases of the life cycle, thanks to the Life Cycle Assessment Study (LCA), we are also more aware of the impact that each phase will have on environment, consequently the end user will have the guarantee and the certainty of being in possession of a certified, quality, eco-sustainable and verified product in every aspect. As already mentioned, in this sector the regulations and quality standards are the minimum prerequisites applied to all these types of systems, especially for those categories intended for our Armed Forces. as in our case, the AS-CHAIN304R flooring. For this reason, certifying an EPD Italy product can only improve and expand its reference market, also opening the doors to all those new realities that until now were not accessible.

Do you think that EPDItaly can contribute to spreading the culture of product sustainability?

I had the honor of knowing EPD Italy in some circumstances whose prerogative at the basis of environmental safety was to create a product capable of satisfying the highest product standards with very high functional performance and at the same time respecting the processes related to environmental impact. For this reason, I believe that it will certainly be possible to monitor and control more and more eco-sustainability, even of those products and sectors that were not previously required to comply with the minimum environmental criteria.

How important, in your opinion, is the presence of sustainable Italian products within a Program Operator that makes the international network one of its strengths?

Made in Italy has always been synonymous with quality at an international level and therefore standardizing the concept of eco-sustainability thanks to a Program Operator such as EPDItaly is certainly the key for our country, also considering that in many other countries, even outside the EU. , this theme has been strongly felt and put at the forefront for years now. For this reason, I consider it very important as it allows us to compare ourselves globally with all other countries as well.
