Here is the interview with Silvia Serri, Certification Manager and WCM at Marazzi Group.
Marazzi has chosen EPDItaly as Program Operator for the publication of the EPD. In addition to visibility and various international agreements with other operators (eg USA), do you think that having an accredited Italian brand favors the recognition of quality and prestige characteristics worldwide?
Made in Italy in the tile sector is a plus that we cannot give up, as a guarantee of a high-level technical and aesthetic design, recognized as such all over the world. Certainly an Italian brand accredited for the publication of the EPD represents a further added value demonstrating the environmental excellence of Italian products.
Do you think that the possibility of using tools to develop your own EPDs can favor the overall growth of the sustainability level in the building sector?
Having the ability to create a customized Tool on the specific processes of our company has allowed us to understand the cause-effect relationships on the useful life of the product, which derive mainly from the choices made during the procurement and production phases. This greater awareness is the basis for an eco-sustainable design in terms of process and product. Without forgetting that eco-sustainability can pass through a decrease in production costs that we can evaluate during the process, leaving the quality of the products unchanged.
